Dosher Emergency Department earns two national awards
It's all about providing consistent, high-quality care. Dosher has been on a journey to excellence for four years, and for nearly two years straight-22 of 26 months-
the results have been outstanding. The Emergency Department has achieved patient satisfaction scores at the 90th percentile or higher compared to all other emergency departments in the Press Ganey database-2,082 hospitals-September 2014-October 2016. The department also reached the 95th percentile or higher 15 times in that period, including two months at the 99th percentile, the highest possible score.
For these accomplishments, Studer Group healthcare consulting firm presented Dosher its national Excellence in Patient Care award for "demonstrating outstanding performance in emergency department patient care in 2016."
Then, a few weeks later, Press Ganey patient satisfaction and measurement firm presented the ED its national Guardian of Excellence award.
Carol Northup, RN, Nursing VP, told State Port Pilot, "We're doing what we believe is right every day because we care about our community and the people we serve. It's nice to get these awards, but that's not why we do it."
JoAnn Turzer-Commesso, RN, director, Patient Care, said, "We received total buy in from the staff to improve our level care for patients, much of which had to do with communicating more clearly with each other and especially with patients. Our goal is to treat every patient like you would want your family member treated."
Then medical director, Dr. James Weingarten, said, "These awards are a testament to the countless hours spent by JoAnn and her team in the ongoing effort to provide the best possible medical care to our emergency patients. It has been a team effort, with the goals of establishing best practice policies, as well as fostering a strong sense of cooperation between ED nursing staff and physicians, and ultimately of offering optimal care to our community."
The ED treated more than 13,000 patients in fiscal year 2016. Read more at Dosher.org/Emergency.
