Our Emergency Department (ED) is covered by a physician 24 hours a day. We have ten patient care units and a triage suite dedicated to care for patients from those who are seriously ill or those with minor injuries.
Dosher Hospital's Emergency Department was the 2010 recipient of the Southeastern Regional Advisory Committee Trauma Services Award.

Dosher Hospital's Emergency Department works in partnership with New Hanover Regional Medical Center to facilitate transfer and treatment when appropriate.
All full-time registered nurses are BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certified.
Dosher's ED staff participates in RACE-STEMI protocols.

The ED staff at Dosher is well versed on disaster procedures and protocol, as the hospital is an ongoing participant in multiple area-wide disaster preparedness drills annually.
Dosher's Emergency Department offers specialized services for victims of sexual assault. A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) is an RN with specialized training in the care and treatment of survivors of sexual assault. The SANE nurses at Dosher are responsible for not only preserving the dignity of the patient, but for collecting forensic evidence and my be called to testify as an expert witness in court cases.
ED physicians have extensive training in various aspects of emergency medicine and most have been on staff at Dosher for more than 10 years.

For minor injuries and illnesses, please consider using our Urgent Care center at Dosher Medical Plaza, 4222 Long Beach Rd., Southport. It is open weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the off season and is open weekends during peak season. Weekend hours for the 2016 peak season will be announced in the spring.
