Community programs

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program at Dosher was featured in three news reports in January. Dosher hosted a panel discussion by members of the Brunswick County Sexual Assault Team on January 12. Prior to the meeting, Emergency Department RN Sara Hesse, who is SANE certified, conducted an on-camera interview with WECT-TV about the program (top photo). StarNews and PortCityDaily.com also covered the six-member panel discussion. Ten guests attended the event.

Wellness show on the road

After announcing the $450,000 grant from The Duke Endowment's Healthy People, Healthy Carolinas program to launch the Brunswick County Community Coalition on January 10, we took our message to Bald Head Island two days later. Coalition Chairman Dr. Scott Starks told the BHI Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting how we'll work with the Brunswick County Health Department, New Hope Clinic, and YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina to implement programs to improve the health and wellness of area residents.

We gave another talk at the Southport-Oak Island Chamber the following week.
