Event: Pause to Give Life Flag Raising Ceremony / Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Event
Location: Dosher Hospital Front Entrance
Description: Dosher Memorial Hospital is among dozens of hospitals that will partner with HonorBridge on Wednesday April 3rd to simultaneously hold a statewide Donate Life flag raising ceremony and moment of silence. This event promotes the mission of organ, eye, and tissue donation and honors donors, donor families, recipients, and those waiting for a life-saving transplant in North Carolina. The Pause to Give Life event includes hospitals throughout North Carolina. The observance occurs annually in April to kick off the start of National Donate Life Month. Dosher’s flag raising ceremony will take place outside the hospital front entrance on April 3rd at 10:08 am followed by a moment of silence for 30 seconds to honor organ donors and their families. The time of 10:08 highlights that one donor can save eight lives, and the 30 second moment of silence recognizes that over 3,000 patients are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant in North Carolina. Following the flag raising event, a community outreach representative will be available at a table at the hospital front entrance until 1:00 pm to share information on organ donation and to register those interested in becoming an organ donor.

Event: The Total Joint Experience (9:30am - 10:30am & 1:00pm - 2:00pm)
Location: Dosher Hospital Conference Room (Use Hospital Back Entrance)
Description: The free seminar, given by Dosher Orthopedic Nurse Navigator Chelsea Beard, RN, BSN, will help patients know what to expect in several aspects of care with regard to preparing for joint replacement surgery. It is a requirement for all patients who are scheduled for a joint replacement surgery at Dosher Hospital to attend due to the numerous benefits it offers. Data shows that joint class participants experience a decrease in length of stay, GI issues, pain, anxiety, VTE prevention, reduction of errors, and overall better outcomes. Our aim is to ensure that all patients undergoing total joint surgery at Dosher are fully informed and prepared for the procedure, and we believe that Joint Class is an essential part of achieving this goal. In this class, you will become familiar with this hospital and have your questions answered by a highly experienced member of the Dosher OR team. Patients are encouraged to bring a spouse, friend, or coach, especially one who will be supporting them through surgery and recovery from their total joint replacement.

9:00 am
Event: Operation Medicine Cabinet
Location: Dosher Hospital Front Entrance
Description: The 26th semi-annual “Operation Medicine Cabinet” drug take back event at Dosher Memorial Hospital is scheduled for Wednesday April 10th, between the hours of 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. Local residents are invited to drop off unwanted and expired prescription medications at the hospital front entrance, where law enforcement then takes what is collected for safe incineration. One of the conveniences of this event is that it is designed so that you can “drive through and drop off,” without having to leave your car. Sharps containers will not be accepted at this event, however, Dosher staff members will have information on hand on how to safely dispose sharps at home. Please note: Dosher is unable to collect any medications outside of the published hours of this event. Participants who arrive early will be asked to hold onto their medications until 9:00 am. Community members who arrive after 1:00 pm will be directed to other local safe medication disposal locations. These measures are for the safety of our staff and community, and Dosher appreciates everyone’s understanding. For questions about Operation Medicine Cabinet, call the Dosher office of Marketing and Community Relations at 910-457-3900 or email marketing@dosher.org.
