Care Companion I - Emergency Department
Provides constant observation of patients at risk. Works under the supervision of a registered nurse and/or physician.

EDUCATION
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent

NECESSARY SKILLS
- Effective communication and observation skills
- Undeterred by distressed or combative patients
- Ability to work well with others
- Demonstrate maturity, tact, judgment and sensitivity to
people
- Able to function independently with minimal supervision

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS
- Sitting/standing for long periods of time
- Must be alert and able to make continuous observations
of the patient and surroundings

• Keep patient safe until the nursing staff arrives in the event of escalation
• Continually observes patient behavior, mental status, and activities. Notifies RN of any changes or unusual occurrences
• Identify patient behaviors that require intervention
• One to one observation of high-risk patients as assigned
