Happy Birthday - Dosher Memorial Hospital
By Karen Taylor
On June 2nd, 1930, Brunswick County Hospital, since renamed for our founder Dr. J. Arthur Dosher, opened its doors in the sleepy fishing community of Southport, NC.
While healthcare as a whole and the trajectory of our hospital has evolved over the decades, Dr. Dosher's desire to serve, help and heal members of the community are still the cornerstone of our mission, 89 years after our doors opened. Our staff is not only committed to quality and patient safety, but also to continuous improvement in each clinical area. Nowhere is this more evident than in the program certifications whose standards we have voluntarily implemented to meet. Examples would include our American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) certification at our Cardiac Rehab and our American College of Radiology (ACR) Accreditation in our diagnostic imaging department, covering our wide bore MRI, CT Scans, and Mammography. Our award winning Wound Care Center, which for the third year in a row has received national recognition for successful outcomes as well as patient satisfaction, has helped patients heal wounds caused from diabetic ulcers and radiation damage, who, in many cases, had nowhere else to turn.
This birthday, we at Dosher have a lot of celebrate. We celebrate each dedicated individual for their contribution to our commitment to excellent care, from physicians, nurses, therapists, engineers, food service workers, volunteers and administrators, and we celebrate every patient who has trusted us with their healthcare. Each day, we strive to fulfil our mission as being, "The friendliest most patient focused hospital in North Carolina," and we will work hard to maintain excellence in all of our clinical areas and to honor the trust that we have cultivated with a community that we care for deeply. -Karen Taylor, Dosher Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees
