Dosher Emergency Department Remains Open During Southport Fourth of July Festivities

Release date: July 2, 2026

The Dosher Emergency Department, located at 924 N. Howe Street in Southport, is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and will remain open throughout the Fourth of July holiday without interruption.

While most holiday activities will not affect access to the hospital, North Howe Street will be closed to vehicular traffic for the Southport Fourth of July Parade beginning at 10:00 a.m. on July 4 and is expected to reopen at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Anyone experiencing a serious or life-threatening emergency should call 9-1-1 immediately. Patients seeking emergency care who are traveling by personal vehicle are encouraged to use alternate routes to the hospital during parade hours.

Recommended Route to the Emergency Department from the North:

• Take NC 211 to River Road SE.
• Continue via Rob Gandy Boulevard or Jabbertown Road.
• Turn right onto East Leonard Street.
• Proceed to East 8th Street and turn right.
• Turn right onto North Atlantic Avenue.
• Continue straight to the Emergency Department entrance.

Law enforcement officers will be stationed at key intersections throughout Southport to assist with traffic flow and provide directions to the hospital as needed. In addition, EMS personnel and other first responders will be stationed throughout the city to ensure that medical emergencies are handled quickly and efficiently during the festivities.

Dosher encourages residents and visitors to plan ahead and wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable Independence Day celebration.
