Dosher Memorial Hospital invites community members to take an in-person tour of the hospital. This is to give local residents an opportunity to get an up-close look at the services offered and to have questions about the hospital answered by knowledgeable professionals. Tour group will meet in the front lobby of the main hospital building at 924 N. Howe St., Southport. Space is limited, therefore an RSVP is requested. On Wednesday May 13th, Dosher Memorial Hospital Physical Therapist Scott Passingham will give a seminar on fall prevention and balance at 10:00 am in the Bald Head Island Public Safety Building. This educational session will provide attendees with simple exercises and tips to improve balance, build strength, and stay safe on their feet. Speaker Scott Passingham, Manager of the Dosher Therapy Services Department, has extensive experience in generalized strengthening, sports injuries, fall prevention, balance training, joint replacement recovery and rehabilitation, neurological disorders, and spinal issues. Scott enjoys educating his patients and empowering them to be active participants in their own recovery and long-term health. There will be time allotted for questions at the end of the presentation. This event is free of charge, and all are welcome.

On Tuesday May 19th, Dosher Memorial Hospital will team up with the Oak Island Senior Center to give an educational seminar entitled Stay Ahead of a Stroke: Prevention & Early Recognition. Presented by Dosher’s Speech Language Pathologist Jaime Staron, MA, CCC-SLP/L, this information session will discuss ways to reduce risk of stroke, how to spot warning signs that can save your or someone else’s life, and what to expect when in stroke recovery. This event is free and all are welcome.

Join us for this annual celebration of honoring our patients, staff and community! Dosher Memorial Hospital will hold our 5th annual community cookout in conjunction with our 96th birthday celebration on Saturday June 6th, from 11:30am-1:30pm. This year’s cookout will take place in the front entrance parking lot of the hospital at Fodale Ave. and N. Howe St. All are welcome to join Dosher staff, members of the Dosher Trustees, Dosher Volunteers, and hospital leaders for a cookout lunch and birthday treat.
