NEW PRACTITIONER ORIENTATION
This information is provided for the practitioner that has been granted medical staff membership:
Welcome to the Medical Staff of Dosher Memorial Hospital. Your physician colleagues, together with the Medical Staff Office professionals hope that you feel welcome here and remember that the Medical Staff Office is here to support you and assist with your interaction with the hospital, medical staff, and physicians in the community. We trust you will have years of successful and satisfying professional practice here in Southport, North Carolina.
The following information is not meant to be an all-inclusive review of processes, hospital policies, bylaws and rules, but provides a map of the NEXT STEPS.
We are moving towards electronic information in most all areas and you will find most information and communications on the public www.DOSHER.org website as well as through this Medical Staff Portal. You will be referred back to the "Overview" page of this portal for additional information and documents.
This information is meant to give you a view of the most frequent and critical physician concerns. Please feel free to contact the Medical Staff Office if you have any additional questions or if these directions are not clear to you. The Medical Staff Office works closely with your elected Medical Staff Officers to address physician concerns and problem-solve issues as they arise within the Medical Staff. They can serve as resources to you when you have unique concerns. The senior physicians in your own practice and in the community are also valuable resources for information and guidance.

FIRST STEP:
Medical Staff Office:
Email Susan Tabor or call to 910-454-4739 to set up an appointment to tour the hospital and receive an introduction to the areas to your benefit.
The Medical Staff Office will:
- Maintain your credentialing records.
- Assist you with Initial and Reappointment Issues.
- Serve as Liaison to the Medical Executive Committee and Credentials Committee.
- Be a focal point for general information and questions.
- Introduce you to the various departments to complete your registration and process coordination.
SECOND STEP:
The following areas will need to meet or speak with you. The contacts are listed here for you to continue your follow through:
Information Systems:
You will need a Chartlink ID number and password if you are a physician or allied health professional. This would give you access to lab reports, radiology reports, and computerized hospital records.
JD Hammond, RN will make arrangements for your orientation to Chartlink and CPOE (internal email). He can also be reached at 910-454-1161. If you are on EClinical, he will work with you on your onboarding to the clinics.

Health Information Management:
Contact Cynthia Ricks, 910-457-3867.
HIM will provde information on:
- Dictation Number and Directions to Process
- H&P Requirements
- HIPPA Information
Employee Health and Infection Control:
Contact Lisa Tyson, 910-457-3937.
She will provide:
- Information on our infection control guidelines.
- Assist you with any infection control policies.
Patient Accounts:
Contact Dawn Dollar, 910-457-3806.
The following must be completed:
- Hospitalists and ED physicians must complete applications to become providers for Medicaid
- and Medicare. This is necessary BEFORE you see any patients.
- Community Physicians need to provide their NPI number.
- New CRNA's need to complete a Medicaid & Medicare provider number request.
Human Resources:

All staff practitioners must have an identification badges. It must be worn at all times in the hospital and will be needed during a disaster for access to the hospital. You would not be let through a police roadblock in times of disaster without this namebadge.
Operating Room
If you will be utilizing the services of the OR:
Contact Kim York, RN or 910-457-1195.
Scheduling for the OR is handled by calling Scheduling - 910-457-3819. If you have any special needs for your session, they can provide assistance in advance.
The new Patient Care Unit is one floor with all private rooms. Please meet Joann Turzer-Commesso, RN, Director of the PCU, for a walk through and information on your patient's care.
Medical Staff Services will also accompany you on a tour of the following areas:
- Cardiac Rehab
- Physical Therapy
- Emergency Department
- Laboratory
- Patient Service Center
- Diagnostic Imaging
- Pharmacy
