Emergency Services
Our New Emergency Department (ED) is now open, and our highly trained and committed care team is ready to serve you. Patient entrance for Emergency Department services is on East 9th Street, on the opposite side of the hospital complex from the old ED entrance.
This state of the art facility offers around-the-clock care, with 9 patient rooms and 5 vertical care chairs. Our expert team of physicians and nurses has been recognized for both patient satisfaction—90th percentile or higher nationally—and quality outcomes.
Services offered:
●Our team includes a group of Emergency Department Physicians who are Emergency Board Certified and a nursing staff who are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
●Dosher's ED staff participates in RACE-STEMI protocols.
●The ED staff is well versed on disaster procedures and protocol. The hospital is an ongoing participant in multiple area-wide disaster preparedness drills annually.
●Dosher's Emergency Department offers specialized services for victims of sexual assault. A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) is an RN with specialized training in the care and treatment of survivors of sexual assault. The SANE nurses at Dosher are responsible for preserving the dignity of the patient and for collecting forensic evidence. They also may be called to testify as an expert witness in court cases.
●The Emergency Department at Dosher was the recipient of the Southeastern Regional Advisory Committee Trauma Services Award in 2015 and several times in prior years.
●For patients who are seriously injured, Dosher's ED staff works in partnership with regional trauma centers to facilitate transfer by ambulance or helicopter, and treatment, when appropriate.
Teleneurology and Stroke Diagnosis
Dosher recently implemented state of the art technology in the Emergency Department which enables emergency room physicians to have around the clock access to neurologists via telehealth communication. Teleneurology services enable Dosher to diagnose and treat patients with symptoms of a stroke in a highly efficient manner and begin time sensitive medications sooner. Dosher Emergency Department physicians and nurses have gone through extensive stroke training and are prepared to respond quickly to patients who display symptoms of a stroke.
Visitor Policy Updates
Due to increasing rates of respiratory illnesses nationwide, beginning Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, at 7 a.m., children under the age of 13 are asked not to visit Dosher Hospital. This applies to all child visitors, including siblings, friends, or family members. This restriction does not apply to children who are seeking medical care.
Visitors age 13 and older who are experiencing symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, fever, or cough are encouraged to postpone visits.
These measures help protect our patients and reduce the risk of children being exposed to or spreading influenza and other respiratory viruses.
Visitation Exceptions
• Emergency Department patients who must bring their children with them
• Visitors to patients receiving end-of-life care
Thank you for your cooperation and for supporting Dosher’s commitment to patient safety.
