Laboratory


Laboratory evaluation of specimens is necessary to enable physicians caring for patients to accurately diagnose patient conditions and to monitor their progress while under therapy. Routine testing is performed in the Clinical Laboratory, while testing requiring technology not available within the hospital network is forwarded to our accredited reference laboratory, Lab Corp.

Test results are provided in emergency, acute and routine care environments.

Accreditations:

Accreditation by the College of American Pathologists.
Credentialing and certification of technical personnel by ASCP, AMT AND NPA.
Regulations; federal, state and local.

Laboratory tests are performed at the written request of a licensed physician or other allied health professional (AHP) as approved by state stature and medical staff bylaws.

OUTPATIENT LABORATORY HOURS

HOSPITAL:
7:00 am-7:00 pm Monday - Friday.

WELLNESS CENTER:
7:00 am -3:00 pm Monday -Friday. Closed weekends and holidays. Closed for lunch daily from 12:00 PM - 1:00PM.

INPATIENT AND EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT LAB HOURS:
The laboratory at Dosher Memorial Hospital is staffed 24 hours a day for both Inpatient and Emergency Department testing.


Chemistry: Tests for things such as glucose (blood sugar), cholesterol and triglycerides, thyroid, liver and kidney functions, heart disease, quantitative pregnancy test, therapeutic drug monitoring .

Hematology: Testing includes white and red blood cell counts, platelet counts, blood clotting tests and urine sample analysis. Tests are also done to rule out such diseases as infectious mononucleosis, rheumatoid arthritis.

Microbiology: Tests for microorganisms are offered in the Microbiology section. Cultures are done on blood, body fluids and other specimens. When microorganisms are identified, further testing is done to aid the physician in determining the best drug to use to eliminate or control the organism.

Blood Bank: This section determines a patient's blood type. Technicians prepare and issue blood components for transfusion when determined by the physician.

For the public, we offer Cholesterol Screenings every Wednesday morning from 7am-12pm (noon). Cost is $5.00 for cholesterol only, $7.00 for cholesterol with HDL's. Fasting 8-12 hours is required and results will be mailed. A physician order is not required for this screening.
