PHLEBOTOMIST - LABORATORY
Part-Time (20 hours) and PRN (as needed) - various shifts
The phlebotomist serves as the primary link for laboratory and interacts with physicians, guests , family members and other hospital staff to obtain or clarify lab information. Performs a variety of venipuncture techniques involved in the collection of blood specimens from patients for laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
EDUCATION:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Medical assistant OR phlebotomy certification preferred. - Ability to read and communicate effectively with basic computer knowledge required.
Functions of the Position (not an exhaustive list):
- Perform a variety of routine blood drawing procedures to include venipuncture, techniques using standard equipment to include vacutainer tubes and sleeves, tourniquets, and butterfly needles
- Confer with patient to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears, and elicit cooperation
- Prepare, process, label, and store patient specimens and samples according to department procedures using standard techniques and equipment, for subsequent analysis by Clinical Laboratory Staff
