PACU RN
Full-Time (40 hours per week) No nights, weekends, holidays
Responsible for the management of all nursing care rendered immediately post-operative. He/she is capable of making intelligent, independent decisions in all aspects of PACU Nursing and has a working knowledge of surgical procedures and an equal knowledge of the technical equipment utilized for monitoring delivery of care
Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Certification in Basic Life Support
- Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Licensure/Certification:
- Current North Carolina license as a registered nurse
Experience:
- At least two (2) years of recent PACU or critical care experience that has afforded a working experience with the different types of operative procedures and anesthetic agents currently used so as to be prepared to provide optimum care for the patient in the immediate post-operative phase of anesthesia
Functions of the Position (not an exhaustive list):
- Provide optimal patient care in the immediate post-operative phase of anesthesia and surgery
- Restocks supplies, at the end of the day, which have been used during the course of the day
- Regulates, monitors, maintains, and documents all intravenous fluids that the patient receives in the PACU. Maintains accurate records of all vital signs, drains, and special equipment used on patient for recovery
- Transfers the patient back to the nursing units where the nurse monitors the vitals. After the patient is safely back in bed and stable, the PACU Staff Nurse gives a full report of the patient’s procedure, placement of drains and PACU say to the nurse who will be caring for the patient. He/she then reviews the doctor’s post-operative orders with the floor nurse and lets the floor nurse know any precautions to be taken in administering narcotics during the first phase of recovery
